AMERICAS WILD CATS

"This was originally painted with just the bighorn sheep, but when I needed more puma paintings for the cat book, I went back in and added the cougar. I like the explosive quality in the painting, the spontaneity, the 'boom' look that the brushstrokes give to it...like a flock of quail exploding into the air. This is really the way I like to paint. I could have put in every little hair and left the background as it is, but it all ties together better by conveying the animals with loose, painterly strokes."
